Job Description

An experienced Senior Farm Hand/Machinery Operator is required on a family owned and operated property with approximately 8,000ha cropping program located in Merredin, WA (265kms NE of Perth, WA). This role requires someone to carry out all aspects of crop farming duties, machinery operation and some mechanical maintenance required. Accommodation, work vehicle and sponsorship opportunities will be provided for the right candidate as well as a competitive salary package, depending on skills and experience. This is a fantastic client with an excellent track record for staff experience.

About the Role:

  • Start date: August 2024;
  • Duties include: All aspects of crop farming including grain, hay and straw operations;
  • Machinery operation including Combines, Balers, Mowers, tractors, loaders and associated machinery etc;
  • Mechanical workshop duties & machinery maintenance;
  • General farm duties including fencing & yard maintenance required;
  • Truck driving;
  • Size of team: 3 permanent staff including owner plus casuals and contractors.

About you:

  • Must be experienced with broadacre cropping;
  • Previous machinery experience including: headers, balers, mowers, seeders, sprayers, tractors and loaders;
  • Mechanically minded with good knowledge of machinery maintenance and ability to complete it to a high standard;
  • Ability to work well in a team;
  • Ability to work unsupervised whilst maintaining safety and efficiency;
  • Honest and reliable – knows when to report issues with gear etc;
  • Non smoker preferred;
  • HR driver’s license or above essential;
  • Ability to direct casual staff and contractors where required by management;
  • Presentable with good health and hygiene.

What’s on offer:

  • Great hourly rate of $40 on offer, depending on experience;
  • Standard working hours: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm (extra hours will be required over peak periods) Peak periods will include weekend work and minimum 12hr days;
  • Accommodation: Brand new 2×1 house on farm, suitable for singles and couples;
  • Work vehicle provided along with running costs for farm business use
