Due to a recent succession our client, a family owned and operated mixed enterprise, are seeking a Livestock Manager to oversee a self-replacing merino and Ultra White sheep flock that joins 13,000 ewes and peaks at 25,000 over 6 different locations in Kojonup, Tambellup, Cranbrook and Boyup Brook Western Australia.  The livestock program compromises of an easy care, low wrinkle, modern merino and Ultra White shedding flock, who are always striving to push to the next level with genetics and management. The ideal candidate will have advanced livestock experience, particularly working with sheep, will have the ability to problem solve and be capable of working independently as well as within a team. There is also the potential for partners to work in a nanny position.

About the Role:

  • Start date: Flexible;
  • Duties: Manage the stock operation with good communication with Farm Manager;
  • Overseeing health and welfare of stock including drenching, needling, back lining;
  • Running the process of joining, scanning, lamb marking, crutching, weaning and shearing;
  • Analyzing pastures and making accurate assessments;
  • Operating feed carts, hay rollers, augurs, tractors and feeding sheep;
  • Working alongside team members to learn and manage data, nucleus stud classing, genetic testing and ram selection/purchasing;
  • Maintaining records and data that is necessary for the livestock program and for safety in the workplace obligations to be met;
  • General farm duties: fencing etc;
  • Machinery: Case QuadTrac, John Deere & New Holland tractors, tow behind Hay Bale Buggy; 60ft DBS Seeder, Lexion Headers, John Deere sprayers, Scania Trucks; Can Am x 5, 4 x Quad Bikes 
  • Managing the team day to day, size of team: 5; 

About you:

  • Must be experienced working with livestock (sheep);
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Honest and reliable – knows when to report issues with gear etc;
  • Preferable non-smoker;
  • Manual driver’s license essential;
  • Good communication skills.

  • Standard working hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am – 5:30pm (50hrs);
