WA Award Rates - are you in the know?

It is important for the clients/employers who use our services to understand the state industrial laws of Western Australia in order to lawfully employ Rural Enterprises’ candidates. State Industrial Laws cover areas including minimum conditions of employment and leave entitlements for employees, and you can find information specifically relating to farm jobs.

As the People in Agriculture “Resources for Employees” document states:

The WA Farm Employees Award 1985 applies to the sowing, raising and harvesting and/or treatment of Grain fodder or other farm produce, and the breeding, rearing or grazing of horses, cattle, sheep pigs or deer. This award does not cover the dairy industry in WA which is therefore ‘award free’.

The Fruit Growing and Packing Industry WA Award applies to all workers employed in the classifications contained in the award in the fruit growing and packing industry including the preparation of land , cultivation, planting, care, handing, treating, packing and dispatching all fresh fruits including tomatoes. The growing and packing of vegetables other than tomatoes is award free.

The Shearing Contractors Award of Western Australia 2003 covers shearing operations in WA by employers who operate as shearing contractors.

Rural Enterprises sources candidates locally, interstate, and overseas, so it is important for employers to research the award rates applicable to who they hire.

Seasonal

Great sponsorship potential.  This couple from UK, non smokers, aged 28 and 23, are looking to work the seeding season on the same farm. Available from 3 March right through until October if required (when their visa expires), however if a farmer is looking for a full time person and open to considering sponsorship, he could be an option for you.  You could employ them for the seeding season as a trial for both parties.  They worked together through us for seeding 2017 and one returned for harvest and operated the header for the season (she went on to work at CBH).  Great feedback from our client who would happily employ him full time if a position was available.  A Plumber/Heating Engineer by trade back in UK. Experience in operating air seeder, header and chaser bin. His Fiancé has CBH and chaser bin experience also and excellent references. Very honest couple, reliable with a great work ethic and proven they work well together.  They want to work on the same farm for seeding (happy to do split shifts); somewhere not too remote.  They have their own transport. You will not be disappointed!
