Local Jobs Program

ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are very pleased to announce that Rural Enterprises Australia has been awarded the contract for Employment Facilitator and Support Services for the Local Jobs Program across three regions!

  • Perth North
  • Geraldton
  • Kalgoorlie

As part of the economic response to COVID-19, the Australian Government has established a program to support the recovery of local economies through identified place-based strategies that can respond rapidly to the region's training and employment needs, and importantly, connect job seekers to local jobs (Local Jobs Program).

LOCAL JOBS PROGRAM

On 1 July 2021, the Local Jobs Program expanded to all 51 Employment Regions throughout Australia.  It brings together expertise, resources and access to funding at the local level to focus on reskilling, upskilling and employment pathways for people in each region.

Local knowledge is essential in identifying challenges and developing solutions.  The Local Jobs Program supports this with the following elements in each region:

  • An Employment Facilitator in each region is appointed to oversee the delivery of the Local Jobs Program
  • A Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce
  • A Local Jobs Plan (click here to view the local jobs plans)
  • A Local Recovery Fund to support small scale regional activities
  • The National Priority Fund (NPF) to support employment growth through projects addressing structural barriers in the labour market.

LOCAL RECOVERY FUND (LRF)

The types of LRF activities could include training and re-skilling opportunities; tailored training; professional development; individual mentoring; work experience; employment pathway and internship programs.

For example, a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce may identify local growth industries such as agriculture or construction.  In this case, the Employment Facilitator could work with employers, employment services providers and training providers to help develop short courses for individuals in the region to move into the jobs identified in these growth industries.

Employment Facilitators ensure a coordinated approach is used to leverage existing programs and minimise duplication.

WHAT INITIATIVES MAY BE FUNED UNDER THE NATIONAL PRIORITY FUND (NPF)?

The NPF complements the LRF by funding innovative approaches which address structural challenges and support a more efficient labour market.  For more details on the funding, click here.
